The biggest stadium in the world

The biggest stadium in the world is not where you would expect it. Itís neither in Europe nor America. The by far biggest stadium in the world is actually in Asia; in North Korea to be precise. It is called the Rungrado May Day Stadium in Pyongyang. With a capacity of 150,000 seats it is considerably bigger than any other stadium in the world. It was inaugurated in 1989. It hosts political (it is North Korea after all) and of course sport events. During a gymnastics meeting 100,000 athletes and 150,000 spectators gathered there (a total of 250,000 people in one building!) which has got to be another world record.

The second biggest stadium in the world with a capacity of 120,000 seats is the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata (India). It is also considered the biggest football stadium in the world. It has a synthetic track for athletics events so it isnít a football-specific stadium.
That crown takes the Aztec Stadium (Estadio Azteca) in Mexico City. It is considered the biggest football-specific stadium in the world. With a capacity of 105,000 it is also the fifth largest stadium at all. There are currently 11 stadiums worldwide with a capacity of 100,000 and higher. Most of them are located in the US. All the big stadiums there are football stadiums but for American football.
